Anton Bruckner

Burial Beneath Organ at Sankt Florian

An organist and composer, Anton Bruckner (d. 1896), is buried beneath the Organ of the Sankt Florian monastery, in Austria. At one time he was the organist for this monastery and it is said that he left very specific instructions about the preparation of his corpse after his death. I wonder if he found some significance that eluded me about the sparsely documented series of incidents which took place during the Renaissance and Baroque periods of cathedral construction, in which workers or clergymen were often crushed beneath Pipe Organs during their construction…
