Yoko Ono Piano Drop
Beginning in the 1960s and continuing onward till at least the 90s, the “Fluxus Happening” of dropping a piano continued to be performed by Al Hansen and his associates… One of whom happened to be the controversial Yoko Ono. I am unsure if she was ever directly involved but somehow the performance eventually took on her name.
KRAB & Helix Piano Drop
In 1968 an enterprising group made up from members of the radio station KRAB and newspaper Helix, dropped a piano from a helicopter. It seems they may have been inspired by the “Fluxus Happenings”, but what intrigued me was the height at which they were able to drop the piano from. It was reportedly over 150 feet in the air! I believe that is the highest piano drop I have come across in my research. Yet again, it appears that the piano they used was NOT a Grand Piano.
